Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. Because of its hydrating properties, many skin care products contain sodium hyaluronate. It also has medical uses, in wound healing and eye care, for example.
Sodium Hyaluronate is used for the treatment of dry eye syndrome (keratoconjunctivitis sicca). In addition to treating dryness, it is also helpful in protecting eyes. It is also used to treat dryness of cornea caused by trauma to it or when the eyes cannot be closed due to nerve paralysis.
