Phenylmercuric acetate (PMA), with the chemical formula C8H8HgO2, is an organomercury compound composed of a phenyl group (C6H5) attached to mercury (Hg) via an acetate (CH3COO) moiety. PMA is a white to off-white crystalline solid, soluble in organic solvents and sparingly soluble in water. It exhibits antimicrobial and fungicidal properties due to the presence of mercury, making it effective in a variety of biological and industrial applications.
