Characters It occurs as a white crystalline powder.
Identification Test A   a. Specified test. A solution of Calcium Propionate (1 in 20) imparts a transient yellowish red color to a nonluminous flame.
Solubility One-gram dissolves in about 3ml of water.
pH Between 7.5-10.5
Limit of Fluoride Not more than 30 µg/g
Limit of Lead Not more than 2 µg/g
Magnesium (as MgO) Specified Test. The solutions pass the test (About 0.4%)
Water insoluble substances Not more than 0.2%
Water determination Not more than 5.0%
Loss on drying Not more than 4.0%
Residual Solvents Meets the Requirements
Assay Not less than 98.0% and not more than 100.5% of Calcium Propionate, calculated on anhydrous basis

Shelf life, Storage and Packing
It should be stored in a segregated area in a cool and ventilated place away from combustible materials. Keep in a tightly closed container, sealed until ready for use. It is packed in 25kg or 50kg HDPE bags or drums as required.
