Characters It occurs as White, slightly hygroscopic powder
Identification Test(A) (a)It responds to the test for Bismuth and for Nitrate
Solubility Practically insoluble in water and in alcohol. Readily dissolved by hydrochloric acid or by nitric acid.
Loss on drying Not more than 3.0% of its weight.
Carbonate Specified Test.
Chlorides Maximum 0.035%
Sulfates Specified Test. No Turbidity is produced immediately.
Limits of Ammonium Salts Specified Test. The vapor does not turn moistened red litmus paper blue.
Arsenic Maximum 8 ppm
Copper Specified Test. The liquid does not exhibit a bluish color
Lead Specified Test. The liquid does not become cloudy
Silver Specified Test. No precipitate is formed that is insoluble in a slight excess of hydrochloric acid, but that is soluble in 6 N ammonium hydroxide.
Alkalies & Alkaline earths Not more than 0.5%
Residual Solvents Meets the requirements
Assay Not less than 79.0% of Bismuth Trioxide (Bi2O3), calculated on the dried basis

Shelf life, Storage and Packing
It should be stored in a segregated area in a cool and ventilated place away from combustible materials. Keep in a tightly closed container, sealed until ready for use. It is packed in 25kg or 50kg HDPE bags or drums as required.
